Stress-Free Planning: Preparing your Home for the Holidays
The holidays are a time for laughing with loved ones and making new memories, however, this festive time of year can also be stressful if you're not prepared. There is nothing worse than running around doing last minute tasks while you should be spending time enjoying the company of your guests. Just follow these four steps to easily prepare your home for the holiday season.
1.) Plan Early
The number one way to ensure a stress-free holiday is to start planning early. There is nothing worse than having guests arrive while your scrambling to cook, clean, and decorate. Be sure to get a headcount of how many guests you’ll be entertaining so you can be prepared with the necessities. Once you have a headcount, you can begin to plan effectively. Make your shopping list and gather groceries and supplies. Shop early to avoid crowded stores and long lines. Having everything you need at your disposal will instantly take some of that holiday stress off your shoulders.
2.) Clean & De-clutter
Nobody likes to entertain in a messy house. Begin to tackle your house early on so you have time to give it a good deep clean. It’s best to start the below tasks first that way you don’t have to do these bigger chores last minute:
- Clean entryway
- Have carpets and rugs professionally cleaned
- Wash windows and curtains
- Deep clean kitchen
- Clean up porch and yard
- Shovel walkways
3.) Decorate
Now onto the fun stuff! Create a cozy ambiance with holiday décor. Put out a few fall scented candles, add a holiday wreath to your door and some holiday throw pillows for an extra festive feeling.
4.) Prepare for Guests
Make your guests feel welcome by preparing for their stay. If you have guests that will be staying overnight, ensure your guest room is nice and tidy. Make the bed with clean sheets, provide extra towels and toiletries, and put the Wi-Fi Password somewhere visible.
Preparing your home for the holidays can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. It just takes some planning and preparation. Having your home ready before your holiday guests arrive means that you will be able to unwind and enjoy making memories that you will cherish for many years to come.
